So Sad Right Now.

I know this is supposed to be a sportscard blog, but right now I'm too sad to write about bits of cardboard. The reason being that our puppy Morris died last night, he was a great little guy who always made us happy even when pooping and peeing on the carpet. The poor little guy had some type of poisoning and sadly died. His older sister Mimosa is in the vets as I write this and we are hoping she will be ok. Morris will be missed by all of us. R.I.P little dude.

150 Up.

The card above is my 150th James Shields card, the collection now stands at 152. The Bowman Chrome Orange Refractor was card 150. Many thanks to the seller on comc.com for listing it. This whole collection started 3 years ago with a 25c winning bid on a Bowman Draft Chrome card. At the time Scott Kazmir was my primary collection, but as time has gone on the Kazmir collection has ground to a halt and the Shields has taken off.

James Shields is really the poster boy for the Rays. A pitcher who has good stuff not great, but he just churns out the innings. He leads the Rays in wins, strikeouts and innings pitched. All these will no doubt be overtaken by David Price at some point in the future. So far this season Shields has looked great, two complete games and then 8+ innings in his next start. A far cry from last season, I hope he keeps doing what his doing and the Rays keep on winning. If not, nevermind I will still be hunting down his cards.

Something A Bit Different.

Above and below we have a couple of cards I found searching on ebay. These cards were produced by The Disabled Veterans of America charity. I had never heard of DAV before much less knew about the cards. It's good to know that baseball gives to those in our society who need it most. It's always good to pick up pc cards that are a little different and I am very happy to be able to add these to the Davis and Shields pc's.

First Ever Blog Trade.

The weekend brought my half of my first ever blog trade. Mr San Jose Fuji was the blogger who was brave enough to trade with me. Fuji got two Greg Maddux Jersey cards for his Maddux pc and I Was lucky enough to recieve the Cole Hamels Masterpieces Jersey card and the Frank Thomas below. I love the Materpieces cards, they look and feel so cool. This is why I miss Upper Deck so much, come on Topps no more retro sets think of something new. Also I got the sweet Frank Thomas Jersey card, again Sweet Spot is another favorite set of mine. Sadly this card has a personal bug bear of mine. Big FRank is in his Jays uniform but the card has the A's logo on it. Just laziness from the card company there,
I had seen other traders trade with Fuji and they all got an auto'ed Fuji card. I was really happy when opening my package to see my very own Fuji card. To be honest this is my favorite card from the trade. I just hope Fuji looks less stressed in real life. I know he is a teacher so maybe this is how he looks all the time. Many many thanks for such a cool and simple trade Mr Fuji.

The Biggest Waste of Money In Baseball.

Daisuke Matsuzaka. Is this guy the biggest waste of money in baseball history? The Red Sox are into him for over $100 million dollars. Ouch or LOL depending on your team is. Nice card though love the Japanese writing. (Up for trade if anyone is interested).

Second Chance Taken.

A couple of posts ago I was moaning about being out bid at the last second on three cards I really wanted. The Wade Davis red refractor and James Shields Superfractor have long since disappeared into the collections of other lucky collectors. I was also outbid on the card above, I was feeling pretty pissed off at ebay as you can imagine. So it was to my utter surprise last week when I logged into my ebay account that I noticed I had a second chance offer. As I bid on quite a few cards during the week I curious to find out which card I was having a second chance at. Imagine my surprise when I saw the card that was being offered to me, 2010 Topps James Shields Platinum Border 1/1, I couldn't hit the pay now button fast enough. So for the grand total of $21.78 I now own my first cardboard Shields 1/1, I already had two printing plates but never a cardboard 1/1.

Of course Karma can come back to kick you in the ass, I got the card I really wanted and the Rays start the season 0-6. Remember the season is a marathon not a sprint.
